By using traditional powder metallurgy (PM) to manufacture bearing sleeve and other wear-resistant products, the end of the process is to immerse parts in oil. But to metal injection moulding products, such as electronic parts, after the injection moulding and sintering, surface treatment is the last process. so many friends engaged in MIM are not familiar with the oil immersion treatment. For most products, oil immersion is not necessary, but for some special porous antifriction products, it is an important process after sintering.
Metal injection moulding is just another process of powder metallurgy. Many theories and methods of powder metallurgy can be applied to metal injection moulding products. Oil immersion cannot only increase the corrosion resistance and wear resistance, but also make some porous bearing materials have the characteristics of automatic oil supply, so as to reduce the number of lubrication and maintenance in ordinary work, and prolong their service life.
Oil immersion can improve product performance. Lubricating oil enters MIM products under certain conditions. Oil-soaked products are usually subject to friction in their working environment. When their surface is rubbed, the temperature will rise. The oil in their pores will expand when heated. The expanded oil will flow out of the pores to form an automatic oil supply. Thus, a layer of oil film will be added on the surface of the products. So the oil film can play the role of lubrication and friction reduction.
