This requires not only the use of advanced materials with appropriate physical properties, but also with the miniaturization of geometric features in order to increase functions. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a highly effective and reliable method for manufacturing micro-parts. Micro-structural parts manufactured by mu-MIM can be used to replace plastic parts to obtain the advantages of mechanical properties, corrosion resistance or high temperature performance.

The success of this new manufacturing process is based on the fact that other processes cannot solve the problem of material and mass production. There is no alternative to mu-MIM. LIGA technology (the combination of lithography and electroforming) is only applicable to 2D, and the material selection is limited by electro plating. Other technologies, such as electrochemical micro-fabrication, micro-milling and micro-grinding, they all have the ability to make the parts that less than 1 micron, but they are not suitable for mass production.
