As we know, PIM includes MIM, so MIM binders must meet the same requirements of PIM. In addition, binders for MIM needs to meet other conditions, such as rusting.

1.Can water-soluble binder be used?

When MIM is degreased, water-soluble binder additives such as polyethylene glycol or polyvinyl alcohol can be dissolved in warm water to be easy removed. Although they are attractive because of their low cost and minimal environmental impact, they cannot be used in MIM.

There are two main reasons:

A.Water-soluble binder is easy to absorb moisture from the air and change from solid to rubber, which affects parts dimensional stability.

B.Iron and steel powder is easy to rust.
