Characteristics of metal injection molding technology
As a kind of near net forming technology for manufacturing high quality precision parts, MIM has incomparable advantages compared with conventional powder metallurgy and machining methods. The MIM is capable of manufacturing many parts with complex shape characteristics, such as various external grooves, external threads, tapered surfaces, cross-pass holes, blind holes, concave tables and key pins, stiffened plates, surface knurls, etc., which cannot be obtained by conventional p/m methods. Because the parts made through the MIM require little machining, reducing the consumption of materials, the MIM is more economical than the machining method when the number of complex shape parts required to be produced is higher than a certain value.
