Basf provides a new tool for simulating the application of injection parts. Basf's Ultrasim simulation tool has been accurately calculating the anisotropic mechanical behavior of fiber filled plastics for injection moulding products. Now a thermomechanical model of fiber reinforced thermoplastics has been added, which can accurately predict temperature-induced deformation by simulation.
For customers, they can now identify possible defects in the actual development phase of the component and prevent them before the production phase. The new module considers the complex thermo mechanical material behavior, the influence of anisotropic fiber orientation, and the temperature distribution and change in the module.
Andreas Wonisch, a BASF simulation expert, said: "In the early stages of development, it is absolutely necessary to make a detailed prediction of the final product. Especially when high performance plastics are used in automobiles and exposed to huge temperature differences, it is necessary to predict possible deformation.
