How to improve the quality of MIM molds

Improving the quality of the mold can be started from the selection of the mold material, the usability of the mold structure, the safety performance, and the maintainability of the mold parts. Because the mold is a tool with multiple different mold parts, there are some consumables that need to be replaced frequently. Therefore, mold manufacturers need to pay special attention to the maintainability design of the mold.

The selection of MIM mold material needs to select the mold material with less affinity with the product according to the nature of the powder material to be injected by the customer, so as to prevent the sticking mold from aggravating the wear of the mold part, thereby affecting the quality of the mold and the demolding effect of the product.

In addition to working on the material, to improve the quality of the MIM mold, attention should be paid to the maintainability of the mold from the design of the mold structure. When designing the mold structure, it is as compact as possible and easy to operate, and it must ensure sufficient strength and rigidity of the mold parts.


When the mold structure permits, the corners of each surface of the mold part should be designed as rounded transitions as much as possible to avoid stress concentration; for the concave mold, cavity and part of the punch and core, the combination or inlay structure can be used to eliminate the stress. Concentrated, elongated punches or cores, structurally appropriate protective measures are required.

At the same time, it is also necessary to consider how to reduce the impact on the quality of the mold caused by the wear of the sliding fittings and the frequent impacting parts in long-term use.


In the design, it is necessary to reduce the range of disassembly and assembly when repairing a certain component, especially when the consumable parts are replaced, and the disassembly and assembly range is minimized.
